New to Healthy Eating? This one’s for you… These three simple changes or additions to your life are game-changers for your overall health and how you feel!

Step #1- One simple change can make a world of difference–It’s not new, it’s not secret, it’s just an often overlooked fact… Drink water, lots of it! Give fountain drinks the boot and try LaCroix, flavored club soda, or homemade fruit/herb infused water instead. Reason being- the sugar content (usually in the form of corn syrup, which is a whole ‘nother topic for another day) in those drinks, even sweet tea,  is out the roof!!! This one simple change can actually have drastic effects on your well-being.

Step #2- Upgrade your “fast food.” We make most of our poor eating decisions when we are short on time and hungry, aka hangry! Instead of feeding the monster, try this… The absolute fastest way to start eating “real” fast food: Grab 1-2 rotisserie chickens and a few precut bags of veggies (broccoli, carrots, green beans, cauliflower, etc). When you get home from the store, lay your veggies on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Place them in the oven to roast at 425 for 10-15 minutes. Store them in the fridge and you will have quick meals for days. These chicken and veggies can be the foundation for so many meals- they can go in wraps (with some honey mustard), quesadillas (with some cheese or smashed avocado), over salads (with a simple dressing and some nuts/seeds on top) and in an omelet in a pinch!

Step #3- Get to know your blender. Really– become good friends! Let her show you what she can do. Let’s  backup for a sec… If you don’t have a good one, that blends ice nice and smooth, write yourself a note to start saving up right now!

If you do have a goodie, use this to blend up many different concoctions of healthy stuff that actually tastes GOOD! Seriously, you’ll feel like a million bucks after you drink a loaded green smoothie.  If you usually baulk at “healthy tasting foods,” then smoothies are for you! The taste of peanut butter, cocoa powder, or bananas can override just about anything. Here’s your challenge- Go throw a half cup of cauliflower rice and a few handfuls of something green (like spinach or kale) into a smoothie with a banana and see if you can taste it, I dare ya!

That’s all for now, which one are you going to start with this week? I’m rooting for ya as you begin and I’ll be back with more help soon!
